A natural leader joins the Elevate Fitness team – Rossland News

Born, raised and invested in the community, Chris Derocchi of Rossland became a full partner of Elevate Fitness on August 1st.

Derocchi has teamed up with owners Dallas Calvin and Andrew van der Ham and is excited to return to his hometown to contribute to health and fitness in Rossland and Trail.

“It’s so nice,” Derocchi said.

“This is the first gym I’ve ever visited. I was in the ninth grade when I first started going here and just to be able to come back and be able to put our own vision into practice and make it a reality, to give people the space that they deserve and want that it’s about the training facility, it’s very cool.’

Derochi served as captain of the Beaver Valley Nitehawks a decade ago, and he and teammate Calvin won a KIJHL title together in 2012. Derochi went on to be a student-athlete at Adrian College in Michigan, where he co-captained the varsity team and competed in the ACHA Div. 1 national tournament four times while graduating with a business degree.

Since Elevate took over the former Better Life Fitness gym in Rossland this summer, they’ve made additional changes and renovations, including creating space downstairs for group classes, upgrading equipment and installing an access system where members can access the gym almost all the time .

“I kind of knew it intuitively, but I didn’t realize how many shift workers there were here, so it (fobs) kind of opens it up to their schedule,” Derocchi said.

And those changes paid off. “I don’t know the exact numbers, but I’d say probably at least a 25 percent increase in overall membership,” Deroshi said. “And you have classes that are starting to get good traction.”

The 30-year-old trainer and owner spends his days between the two Elevate gyms in Trail and one in Rossland. He envisions creating a gym where people are comfortable coming on their own and has a “boutique feel.”

“The instructions are very practical and there seems to be a lot of excitement around the fact that they are on the level (45 minutes), that we offer several hours a day to accommodate schedules, and that there is already a great community of members forming around their presence Derocchi said.

What started as a training facility focused on young athletes has now grown into a multi-location business featuring Spin and CrossFit classes, gym memberships, kinesiology, high performance training and physical rehabilitation.

Gyms are diverse in their offerings and at Rossland Derochie hopes to continue with more improvements and improved curb appeal.

‚ÄúThere are a few aesthetic things we’d still like to do. The outside needs a bit of a facelift and the inside has a few things we’d like to do.’

Derochie says they intend to modify the upstairs rooms in the Rossland gym and create a physical treatment area that offers physical therapy and Reactive Neuromuscular Training (RNT), an innovative training method that uses specific exercises to promote dynamic stability and rehabilitation after an injury.

Between the three partners, their staff and three unique spaces, the Elevate franchise offers comprehensive training programs for all ages and abilities.
