Fine Feathers – Zentangle® Drawing, Shading and Color Layering Tutorial with Annie Reiser

July 9 from 1 to 4 p.m

Art Center Members: $36. Non-members: $40.

This feather project will enhance your drawing and coloring abilities. Guided by instructor Annie Reiser, a certified Zentangle® teacher, you will draw the feather step by step; the pattern is based on Zentangle® Verdigoh. Next, you’ll shade, color layer, and finish your piece with subtle accents and embellishments. There is a “recipe” for painting almost anything, and the feather recipe taught in this class will guide you in creating many more feathers of different styles, shapes, and colors. Annie will provide you with study sheets to work with before you begin on the final 6×8” plate, which will be created on fine archival watercolor paper mounted on foam core with a protective veil of tracing paper. These materials are included in your class fee.

Annie will have several sets of all the supplies needed for the class available to out-of-town visitors as they will not be able to find these supplies in town.

All other class attendees must bring: Materials/supplies listed separately in the materials list.

Annie Reiser, a certified Zentangle® teacher, loves introducing others to this meditative practice of mindful drawing; a technique using basic strokes of a pen to form patterns that can be combined into complex designs. (Art Center/Courtesy photo)

Introduction to Zentangle® with Annie Reiser

July 12 from 1 to 3 p.m

Art Center Members: $31.50. Non-members: $35.

Annie Riser, Certified Zentangle Teacher,® (CZT) is delighted to introduce others to this meditative practice of mindful drawing; a technique using basic strokes of a pen to form patterns that can be combined into complex designs. The beauty is that no painting experience is required! If you can make a point, a straight line, a curved line and a circle – you have all the skills you need. Relax and focus as you learn the philosophy and creative “ceremony” of Zentangle®. All levels and children welcome.

Materials provided by the teacher as part of the class fee:

Handouts, crumpled erasers and different sized pens to share.

Materials List: Provided for those who wish to bring their own supplies.

However, you can purchase a kit directly from the instructor the day of class for $8.00 that will provide you with all the supplies you need. The set will include: a Muslim drawstring bag, some Zentangle® tiles, a Micron pen, a pencil, a tortillion, a Zentangle® step marker, Tangle tags and a piece of chocolate.

Students are wanted for the Art Center Mentoring Program

This is an exciting and popular Art Center program and an important way for Art Center artists to share their passion for the arts directly with community members.

Mentors are matched with mentees of all ages who want to learn a new medium and have the chance to work with an experienced artist who displays their work in our wonderful professional gallery.

The annual Mentor/Student Exhibition in February is the highlight of the year, giving mentees the opportunity to see their own creations on display in the Art Center gallery and learn about the ‘art business’ (proper framing, pricing, greeting audiences and etc.) along the way.

Application forms can be picked up at the gallery or online at artcenterofestes.com.

Estes Valley Outdoors

There are several participating artists from other countries and we are looking for anyone willing to host an artist between August 18th and 27th. If you have a space available or have any questions, please contact Lars at the Art Center.
