In honor of PRIDE Month in Jersey City, Art House Productions Gallery presents “Not The End of The World…Yet,” a solo exhibition of new works by Donna Kessinger from August 1st through August 28th at the Rotonda Gallery, 2nd Floor in the City Hall, Downtown Jersey City. The opening reception will immediately follow the annual Pride Flag Raising, which will be on Monday, August 1, at 12 p.m.
“My paintings are part of letting the world pass through me and onto the canvas,” says artist Donna Kessinger. “The process changes slightly with new technologies but has remained the same for almost 30 years, involving layering unfocused abstract images, textures or following light in my studio, removing, sealing with wax or in recent work leaving the images exposed.
“In 2021 I had the luxury of spending time on the new series of medium-sized works, deeply layered with water-based oils, traditional oils, wax mediums, house paints and sprays. The paintings are on linen, along with 3 additional grid-based painted series on smaller canvases. They say everything and nothing.
“Donna’s work embodies a timeless serenity that will capture your attention from a distance. Almost presenting themselves as futuristic landscapes, the work looks familiar but not recognizable as traditional. It will draw you in and allow your senses to create a new reality,” says gallery director Andrea McKenna.
The Rotonda Gallery at City Hall is located in downtown Jersey City at 280 Grove Street – two blocks from the Grove Street PATH station and about a mile from the Holland Tunnel.

Donna Rae Kessinger, a working artist and curator based in the New York metro area, fosters collaboration between her emerging artists and their communities. Kessinger’s focus is mainly on projects that bring art and commerce together in the form of possible interventions, performative works, public art projects that can also be seamlessly executed in traditional gallery exhibitions.
Early in her career, Donna Rae was mentored by Marsha Tucker, Alana Heiss, Jenny Dixon and Kate Millett. She is well versed in the operations associated with Womyn artist colonies, ranging from the top level to smaller museums, traditional galleries and alternative art spaces.
Her feminist video media work has been cloned and archived in Rhizome’s Artbase at the New Museum. Her work is live at http://artfem.tv/documentary/ and has been screened at the Jersey City Museum of Art. Kessinger’s art, created for the 1996 REPOhistory Entering Buttermilk Bottom project, is archived by NYU’s Fales Library and Special Collections. Since the late 1980s, her paintings have been collected by curators, other artists and writers.
Donna Rae Kessinger’s paintings represent the mental space that travels somewhere between dreams and memories as it easily flows into oblivion and beyond. Her massive surfaces are slowly built up, removed bit by bit, and manipulated again and again and again and again.
In doing so, her process becomes a meditation without direction. To achieve this work, she uses traditional and water-based oil paints, liquitex spray paint, house paint, household objects such as stencils, and wax mediums on linen and canvas.
