MADRID (AP) – Aurelien Chuameni said that nothing has distracted him from the realization of his dream to play for Real Madrid. Not even a chat with Killian Mbape.
The promising French midfielder made his official move to Madrid on Tuesday, saying he has no doubt where he wants to play, although there are offers from other clubs and is discussing a possible transfer to Paris Saint-Germain with Mbape, who recently decided to stay at French club. , after showing interest in playing for Madrid.
“Killian stayed at PSG and knew I was leaving Monaco, so he wanted to know if I could go to PSG,” Chuameni said when he was officially introduced by Madrid. “But I told him that my first option was always Real Madrid and he understood it perfectly.
The 22-year-old Chuameni signed a 6-year contract with Madrid. He joined Monaco with a reported fee of up to 100 million euros ($ 104 million), including variables.
Chuameni did not say which other clubs had made offers. He said he was just waiting for a call from Madrid.
“The moment Madrid called, I told my agent and the club to find the best deal for everyone,” he said. “I did not doubt for a moment. That was my dream. I want to leave my mark on football and Madrid is the best club where I can do that. ”
Mbape, Chuameni’s teammate in the French national team, upset Madrid and its fans after retiring from the transfer of a free agent to the Spanish club this season. PSG have already rejected an offer from Madrid last year.
Chuameni made his first statements, speaking good Spanish, saying he was happy to join the “best club in the world” and had a chance to help him win more titles.
He said he was inspired by American basketball greats Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan because “they always gave their best to be able to play at a high level” and said he would contribute with a good vision of the field, passes, physical strength. and the ability to regain possession.
Chuameni is the latest French addition to refresh Madrid’s outdated midfield, currently led by 36-year-old Luka Modric, 32-year-old Tony Kroos and 30-year-old Casemiro.

The club recently extended Modric’s contract by one year until June 2023. Kroos’s contract is also good until the end of next season, while Kazemiro’s deal is valid until 2025. The trio helped Madrid win five Champions League titles in the last nine season, including this year against Liverpool.
“Madrid and its fans always want more and now our focus is on winning the 15th European title,” said Madrid club president Florentino Perez. “We have a great team, but we know we have a big challenge ahead of us and we need to add players who are talented and eager to win, so today we will bring in a great player who will help us keep improving.”
Perez thanked Chuameni for “choosing Madrid over other clubs”.
Another young midfielder is 23-year-old Federico Valverde, the Uruguayan international who has been on the senior team since 2018.
Chuameni has been playing for Monaco since January 2020, after joining Bordeaux.
The other French players in Madrid are left-back Ferland Mendy and striker Karim Benzema, the team’s best player this season, as the club has won both the Spanish League and the Spanish Super Cup.
Chuameni will wear the number 18, which was the number of Gareth Bale, until the Welsh national left at the end of the season.
Other players leaving the team include Francisco Isco and veteran Brazilian defender Marcelo, who has played 16 seasons and is the player with the most titles at the club, 25.
