Colby Calvert and Cayden Miller’s Ballard doubles team won one state tournament in the Class 1A doubles tournament, and Collins-Maxwell’s 2-0 softball team (Class 1A) started 2-0.
Ballard’s softball team also won its first two games, defeating Atlantic 9-7 and Bondurant-Farrar in a 9-8 battle. Statistics were not available for the games during the press.
Ballard’s baseball team was ahead of Bondurant-Farrar (4-2), and Collins-Maxwell’s baseball team missed three games against Madrid (4-2), Ogden (5-1) and Colo-NESCO (6-4). The Bombers dropped to a total of 1-4 and started 0-1 in the Raccoon River Conference, while the Spartans also dropped to 1-4 and missed their first opening game at the Iowa Star Conference South Division.

Calvert and Miller won 1-2 during the state doubles tournament for boys 1A on May 24-25 at Burns Park in Waterloo.
Calvert and Miller defeated Jaxson Gerhardt and Ben Loge of Clear Lake in their first match of the championship with a score of 6-2 and 6-3. They lost to Cody Overland of Boone and Matt Zimmerman in consecutive sets during the quarterfinals with a pair of losses of 6-2, then lost to Luke Goble of Kamansh and Chase Sbertoli in the consolation second round with results of 6-3 and 6-2, to end the season.
Jaden Katel and Jacob Ross also competed for Ballard. They were defeated by Colin Reiss of Denison-Schleswig and Harrison Dam in the first round of the championship 6-3 and 6-4, then by Jake Judge of Boone and Zach Bulton in consecutive sets during the first round of consolation, 7- 6 and 6 -3.
The Houge sisters ignite the Spartan softball team
Erica and Alexis Houge ignited the Collins-Maxwell softball team to a 3-0 victory over Roland-Story and Colo-NESCO to open the season. The Spartans defeated the Norwegians on May 23 and Royals Friday, both of which took place in Collins.
Erika hit 16 batteries and hit Homer with three runs in the 10th inning to win the match against Roland-Story. She conceded only 2 goals in the victory.
Alexis was 3-for-4 with running and 2 stolen thefts against the Norwegian. Avery Frick also scored and scored, and Marissa Boege and Vivian Kahler added one single each.
In the victory over Colo-NESCO Erika hit 11 and gave 4 hits and 1 shot. It is also 2-for-3 with RBI on the plate.
Alexis was 2-for-2 with 3 stolen thefts, 2 runs and 1 walk against the Royals. Fricke finished 1-on-2 with 1 run, steal and RBI per piece, Boege was 1-on-3 with RBI and Kahler and Emma Pasquariello each separately.
Spartan baseball team fight, Bomber
The Collins-Maxwell baseball team was one step behind each of their opponents last week.
The Spartans trailed 3-2 against Madrid and failed to score in the last four innings. They failed to overcome an early 4-0 deficit against Madrid and an early 4-2 deficit against Colo-NESCO.
In the loss against Madrid Caleb Dvorak scored and scored, Caden Hasbrouck separated and ran, Weston Kahler walked and scored, and Josef Dvorak and Blake Huntrods took 1 shot each.
Hasbrook suffered the loss after giving up 2 runs in 2 hits with 4 walks and 2 outs in 2 innings.
The loss to Ogden Kahler was 2-for-2 with 1 set and Huntrods and Cooper Wierson took 1 single each to report the only Spartan offense in the 5-inning affair, shortened by time. Jace Huntrods took the lead after giving up 4 runs with 6 goals and 3 runs with 3 outs in 4 innings.
Kahler suffered a loss against Colo-NESCO after allowing 4 runs with 6 hits and 3 runs with 6 outlets in 4 innings. Caleb Dvorak had a great game in the plate in the defeat, making a 4-for-4 with a doubling, 2 runs and 1 RBI.
Jace Huntrods, Weirson and Luke Huntrods drove one run each, and Blake Huntrods scored and scored against the Royals.
Ballard jumped to a 2-0 lead in his loss to Bondurant-Farrar. But the bombers have been without results in the last 6 innings.
Eli Rouse went 3-for-4 with running, and Jaden Peasley finished 2-for-4 with doubling, running and RBI in a losing attempt for Ballard. Katel and Blake Stover separated once and Ross took the RBI.
Rose was the losing pitcher. He went through all 6 innings and handed over 2 won runs with 5 hits and 2 walks with 6 outs.
