Caption Care creates access to the echo in partnership with the national mobile clinical network of Portamedic for improving heart health and reducing care costs

Brisbane, California, June 21, 2022 / PRNewswire / – Caption Health, the leader of AI, which allows earlier detection of diseases, today presented Caption Care: America’s first assessment of heart health at home and a cheap echo service. In partnership with Portamedic, Inc., one of the largest U.S. home health care providers, mobile technicians nationwide will use the Caption AI platform to perform heart ultrasound in the comfort of patients’ homes and other convenient settings to help in diagnosis and detection, before diseases such as heart failure become difficult to treat.

“We are changing the approach to the world’s leading cause of death, especially for people with disabilities. Better assessment of the risk of cardiovascular and heart failure begins with creating accessible access to basic images of the heart. “We partnered with Portamedic and launched Caption Care to contribute to state-of-the-art AI technology in the homes of everyday Americans, to urgently address the growing risk of heart disease,” he said. Steve Cashman, Chief Executive Officer of Caption Health. “Given current heart failure guidelines and existing CMS payment models, Medicare Advantage plans will now have a scalable service to help them assess and manage cardiovascular health for their millions of members at risk.”

Caption Care gives healthcare providers, payers, and value-based care organizations the opportunity to reach out to their communities by covering the last mile of access to ultrasound for members. There is a significant and growing need for diagnostic site ultrasound, not only for those with symptoms, but also to direct people at risk of developing heart disease to early interventions and improved outcomes. Caption Care handles this with convenient, cost-effective cardiac ultrasound to identify heart disease earlier, help prevent avoidable hospitalizations, and maintain improved outcomes.

Cardiac ultrasound is the primary tool used to identify heart failure, the most common diagnosis in the United States for hospitalized patients over 65 years of age. It contributes to millions of deaths worldwide each year, but early symptoms such as fatigue or shortness of breath are usually confused with normal signs of aging. The result: one study showed that 38% of new patients with heart failure were diagnosed in emergency care, although 46% of these patients had potential symptoms six months before diagnosis, when intervention would have a greater impact on slowing the progression of the disease³. Doctors call heart failure the “silent killer” because it is so easy to ignore the symptoms until it’s too late, and it remains the leading cause of death across the country, with cases rising after the COVID pandemic.

“Portamedic has been a leader in mobile home services for 50 years with a network of more than 4,000 technicians and 100 field offices in all 50 states, giving us reliable access to hundreds of thousands of households each year. “Through our participation in Caption Care, we can now play a proactive role in helping to combat the greatest public health threat facing this country, and we are happy to meet the challenge,” he said. Jim Fritz, President and Chief Operating Officer of Portamedic. “As healthcare is increasingly moving out of the hospital and into the home, Caption Health and Portamedic are well positioned with our market-leading capabilities to provide ultrasound to people in the most comfortable and convenient conditions.”
