Food inspections by the Joplin Health Department (20 June) Local news

The Joplin Globe publishes summaries of routine and follow-up examinations performed by Joplin’s health department. Establishments that are inspected, pass or fail on the basis of irregularities identified during the inspection. These violations fall into two categories:

• Priority violations are more severe and relate to improper handling, storage and preparation of food. The globe lists the number and summary of each violation.

• Major violations are less severe and relate to equipment, maintenance and general cleanliness. The Globe only publishes numbers.

Failure to check may lead to various corrections based on the types of violations found. Full copies of each report are available from Joplin’s Health Department.

• Raw chicken, beef and pork products and chopped tomatoes in the small refrigerator for cold cooking above 41 degrees (corrected during inspection).

Old Chicago Pizza and Pub, 3320 S. Range Line Road. Full service restaurant. Routine inspection carried out on 13 June. Results: RIGHT with 2 priority and 3 main violations.

• Unapproved employee’s drink stored on a preparation table (corrected during an inspection).

• The caramelized onion on a walk has expired (corrected during inspection).

Sonic, 1030 E. Seventh St. Fast food. Routine inspection carried out on 13 June. Results: RIGHT with 0 priority and 2 main violations.

• Bottle of medicines stored with and above kitchen utensils (corrected during inspection).

Hardy, 1641 W. Seventh St. Fast food restaurant. Routine inspection carried out on 15 June. Results: PASSED with 1 priority violation and 4 main violations.

• The food storage container on the dish rack has a long crack on the food contact surface (corrected during inspection).

Pham Fo, 2330 S. Range Line Road. Full service restaurant. Routine inspection carried out on 15 June. Results: FAILED with 7 priority and 7 main violations.

• Unauthorized drinks from employees stored in the cooking area.

• Raw animal products (eggs in shell, pork, beef) stored improperly over ready-to-eat foods or less hazardous foods in the M3 series cooler.

• Observed cross-contamination (raw chicken stored with raw whole muscular beef) in the preparation table (corrected during the inspection).

• Raw animal products / potentially dangerous foods in a three-door cooler of the M3 series, kept cold above 41 degrees.

• Beef in the table for cooking over 41 degrees.

• Bulk cream cheese in the three-door refrigerator of the M3 series the date is incorrectly marked.

• Chemicals stored with food utensils and above the cooking area.
