Hunter Allen’s Fuerza project turns the pros’ best performances into NFT art

Peaks Coaching founder Hunter Allen launched Project Fuerza to capture performance data from top pros and turn it into art to be issued as NFTs during the Tour de France.

Top cyclists including Peter Sagan, Geraint Thomas, Mark Cavendish, Dan Martin, Jens Voigt and many more are on board to turn their biometrics into digital art. Each piece is said to be meaningful to the rider as it captures a key performance from their race.

NFTs will be sold on, with new artwork added every Friday in July. Buyers will own the blockchain-verifiable digital art and gain access to view the athlete’s full strength profile data for the day. Some even include the opportunity to meet or talk to the rider.

Each NFT also captures a story from the rider about that performance, detailing the ride, the atmosphere, and their feelings about it. Shown at the top of this post is Mark Cavendish’s recent victory in the British National Championship Elite Road Race. It is only the final sprint of the race where Mark easily wins. The scale outlines are the shape of his sprint power data and the red line is his heart rate data. This is 1 of 1 and contains the power file.

Other works celebrate rides by Geraint Thomas, such as this one titled ‘Surprise Attack’ by artist Facundo Kostelak celebrating stage 5 of the 2021 Dauphine (Saint-Chamond to Saint-Vallier). where Geraint attacked with 1k to the finish for the win, holding off Sonny Cobrelli at the finish line. “It wasn’t planned,” Thomas said. “I knew there were no boys left in Bahrain. I knew it was all lined up and the last part was a bit meandering, so I just thought, screw it, go for it. I went with a kilometer to go, the guys said on the radio that I had a pass and I just went all-in.

“Honestly, I didn’t think I had it on the line. I just sat two meters from the line to start giving the big one, but man, Colbrelli went by so fast, he almost took my helmet off. But it’s really nice to get this win for sure.” Art crunches his strength data and makes a scatterplot out of it, called Quadrant Analysis, which tells you how the athlete produced strength. These points are all over the artwork, which is an excellent example of blending art, imagery and powerful data into one. Contains a biometric data file..

She placed 4th on the stage and was DECLARED the winner of the GC. “Another strong stage finish for Leah and she’s come a long way to take the overall win. Her team were fantastic today and kept everything under control chasing so many attacks. The stage is a slice of the race, and the race is just a slice of her life. Very cool slice.”
