AMSTERDAM-(BUSINESS WIRE)–Management and technology consulting firm BearingPoint recently conducted research that showed leading organizations are building resilience by delivering agile technology through cutting-edge enterprise architecture (EA). They work in five dimensions to build a bridge to enable their business activities and add real value.
- Anticipate future business needs and technologies
- Rebalance your value chain focus
- Develop core enterprise architecture competencies
- Iinvest in technology, people and the digital workplace
- Cooperation with interested parties
BearingPoint analyzed over 5,000 projects to rank 150 leading organizations according to their sustainability characteristics. They then created a benchmarking tool that allows organizations to assess their resilience.
This research shows that 60% of organizations consider their technology to be fully sustainable. When asked about the benefits of using agile methods within their technology functions, 82% of respondents see increased agility in their organization as a result, 72% report improved collaboration, and another 72% highlight increased speed to market.
However, while the study shows that organizations that implement agile methods in their technology function are more resilient, the study also concludes that even these organizations cannot afford to be complacent.
Sustainable organizations focus on enabling collaboration between IT and business units to increase the effectiveness of current technologies and support investments in value-added technologies. They understand that successful agile transformations unlock the true potential of their technology.
Stefan Pechardsek, Global Technology Leader at BearingPoint “We are in the midst of a revolution in business models and technology, and the two cannot be separated. What can you do to use technology to drive business success and ensure sustainability? The answer lies in organizing technology, especially your enterprise architecture, in an agile way to deliver the five key activities of a sustainable organization.”
The study found that leading organizations are taking five actions to build resilience through technology – and add real value
1. They anticipate future business needs and technologies
Resilient organizations update their IT strategy regularly to take into account new technologies, respond to business opportunities and remain resilient. They provide an optimal connection between business models and technology.
2. They are rebalancing their value chain
Sustainable organizations define and maintain a business sustainability framework supported by their EA function and technology. They work across the entire value chain, including strategy, digital and organization.
3. They develop core competencies in enterprise architecture
Sustainable organizations build a strong EA function by getting the right talent, tools and management to define and monitor their business sustainability framework, connecting business goals, initiatives and teams across the organization.
4. They invest in technology, people and the digital workplace
Resilient organizations drive adaptability throughout their organization, supported by technology and fostering a collaborative culture, with empowered people and agile management.
5. They cooperate fully with stakeholders
Sustainable organizations identify and answer key business questions and innovate for sustainability. They use virtual teamwork, share knowledge, communicate clearly and engage partners and customers in innovation projects.
