VA life insurance programs are designed to provide financial security for your family given the exceptional risks associated with military service.

Military Group Life Insurance (SGLI) is a low-cost group term life insurance program for military personnel. Coverage can be extended up to two years if the service member is totally disabled upon separation. Follow this link to learn more about the difference between term and lifetime coverage.

Veterans Group Life Insurance (VGLI) allows veterans to convert your SGLI to a civilian program with lifetime renewable coverage after leaving service. Follow this link to learn more about the difference between term and lifetime coverage.

Family Member Group Life Insurance (FSGLI) insures spouses and children of service members with SGLI coverage. The spouse’s coverage cannot exceed the service member’s coverage. Dependent children are automatically covered for free.

Military Group Life Insurance, Traumatic Injury Protection (TSGLI) is an automatic feature of SGLI that provides payments to service members who suffer losses, such as amputations, blindness, and paraplegia, due to traumatic injuries sustained in the line of duty.

Disabled Veterans Life Insurance (S-DVI) provides life insurance coverage to veterans who have received a VA rating for a new service-connected disability within the past two years. Totally disabled veterans are eligible for free coverage and have the option to purchase supplemental life insurance.

Veterans Mortgage Life Insurance (VMLI) provides mortgage life insurance protection to disabled veterans who have been approved for a VA Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grant.

Veterans Affairs Life Insurance (VALife) will be available starting January 1, 2023, and offers guaranteed acceptance of up to $40,000 for veterans with service-connected disabilities. Military Group Life Insurance (SGLI) Coverage is automatic for most active duty members, members of the Ready Reserve and National Guard scheduled to complete at least 12 periods of inactive training per year, members of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Public Health Service authorized corps, cadets and midshipmen of the US military academies and ROTC members. Veterans Group Life Insurance (VGLI) Military personnel with full-time SGLI coverage are eligible to convert SGLI to VGLI upon separation from service. Learn more about veterans group life insurance

Disabled Veterans Insurance (S-DVI) Military personnel who have been discharged from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable after April 25, 1951 AND have received a service connection for any disability (even 0 percent) within the past two years AND are in good health except for any conditions , service-related may be eligible. Military Group Life Insurance (SGLI) SGLI coverage is automatic. All service members with full-time coverage must use the SGLI Online Enrollment System (SOES) to designate beneficiaries or to reduce, deny, or restore SGLI coverage. To access SOES, go to www.milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect/. Members with part-time coverage or who do not have access to SOES should use SGLV 8286 to make SGLI changes.

Veterans Group Life Insurance (VGLI) Complete and submit Form SGLV 8714 or apply for VGLI online.

Family Member Group Life Insurance (FSGLI) All service members must use SOES to deny, reduce, or reinstate FSGLI coverage. To access SOES, go to www.milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect/. Members who do not have access to SOES must use SGLV 8286A to make changes to FSGLI coverage.

Military Group Life Insurance, Traumatic Injury Protection (TSGLI) Coverage is automatic for all service members covered by SGLI. To file a TSGLI claim, complete and submit SGLV 8600.

Disabled Veterans Insurance (S-DVI) apply for S-DVI online or complete and submit VA Form 29-4364.

Veterans Mortgage Life Insurance (VMLI) Complete and submit VA Form 29-8636, Application for Veterans Mortgage Life Insurance.
