Bill Oaks: Art, Imagination, Vision opens July 9 at Haley Art Gallery

KITTERY, Maine – Bill Oaks: Art, Imagination, Vision with Abstract Works by a Prolific Artist, Bill Oaks will open in July at the Haley Art Gallery with an opening reception on Saturday, July 9, from 3 to 6 p.m. at a talk by the artist from Sharon Oaks (Oaks’ widow) on Saturday, August 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibition will remain on view until September 10. Part of the gallery’s profits will be donated to The Dance Hall, Kittery, the most important place for intimacy on the beach, a variety of music and dancing.

Oaks’ abstract art was for the most part inspired during a trip to Mexico in 1990. Driven by light, textures, colors, peeling posters and rusty cars, he turned from realism to abstraction. He felt that abstract art encouraged the viewer to use his imagination and “see in new ways.” His greatest joy was watching someone make a discovery. Bill Oaks died in 2005, but his art continues to inspire and expose.
