Irving, Texas (August 23, 2022) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and KCLO-TV, the Nexstar television station serving Rapid City, South Dakota and the surrounding area, today announced that the Foundation will donate $5,000 to the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Care Board (GPTCHB). The donation will be used to support their vision for all Great Plains tribal nations and communities to achieve optimal health and wellness through lasting partnerships with health organizations and embracing culturally meaningful values that are empowered by tribal sovereignty.
Established in 1986, GPTCHB is dedicated to serving the health and wellness needs of the tribal members it represents. Supporting the needs of 18 tribes and tribal communities in the four-state region of South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa, GPTCHB meets the health needs of its members by supporting access to health-related programs and resources.
In addition to advocating on behalf of represented tribal members, the organization also provides critical health promotion and education services through its various programs and departments. In addition, the health council advocates nationally for improved Native American health policies on behalf of the tribes and tribal communities it represents, which consist of nearly 170,000 people.
“We recognize the important work of the Great Plains Tribal and the impact it has on our state,” said Marie Ossenforth, vice president and general manager of KELOLAND Media Group. “We are pleased to help this organization achieve its goals. Restoring the communities served by Nexstar across the country is at the core of the company’s mission, and we are honored that the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation is making this donation in recognition of the deep connection between KELOLAND and the Tribal Chiefs Health Council of The Great Plains.’
Commenting on the contribution, Jerilyn Church, President and CEO of the Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board, said, “The Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board is extremely grateful for the support we have received from the Nexstar Charitable Foundation. We hope that our collaboration will continue to provide accurate and relevant public health content to the public.”
The mission of the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation is to contribute to and work with community charities and nonprofit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business.
