VisIC Technologies, a world leader in gallium nitride (GaN) solutions for high-voltage automotive applications, and KYOCERA AVX Salzburg, Kyocera-AVX Salzburg, a leading international manufacturer and supplier of advanced electronic components for the automotive industry with production sites in North America, China and Europe, announce the expansion of their cooperation. The partners combine their strengths in packaging, assembly and GaN wafer technologies to provide high-current components for high-voltage applications such as charging and electronic propulsion.
The expansion of the collaboration aims to meet the automotive industry’s demands for reliable and highly efficient power solutions that will save costs for EVs. With superior thermal resistance, discrete GaN devices and half-bridge modules will be essential for future on-board chargers (OBCs) and traction inverters, thus optimizing weight, size, cost and operating range.
Based on VisIC 2n.d generation, lowest RDS (of) D3GaN (Direct Drive D-Mode) switches, the power module that will provide revolutionary power density and performance, has already been adopted for the next generation inverter model of basic 1St automaker level.
In addition to these collaborative developments, the companies have also achieved a high-voltage battery shutdown approach based on GaN power switches through effective collaboration in a very short period of time. With the fastest switching times, current and therefore thermal stress on the battery and the circuit board can be limited. This design will be available for flagship projects this year.
