The Stanley Cup playoffs are one of the most exciting post-season formats in the sport. For the first time in three years, each team played a full schedule for a regular season of 82 games without interruption from the COVID-19 pandemic. The divisions were completely normal, with teams allowed to cross the border and play in Canada and vice versa.

The structure of the playoffs is as follows:
- The playoff format includes the team with the most points, which takes the second team with wild cards in the opening round of each conference. The winner of the division with the second number of points will face the best team with wild cards.
- Each series will be in the format of the best of the seven
- The advantage of the home ice goes to the team with a higher placed in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The team with the most points in the regular season has home ice in the conference finals and the Stanley Cup final.
