Agriculture and the supply chain, in particular, are affected by the lack of accurate weather forecasts for success in the many daily choices they must make. New blockchain-enabled technologies can help change the outcome, freeing up agricultural income, creating jobs and bringing prosperity to the countryside.
Plugin-Samunnati Partnership: Weather Intelligence and Crop Insurance
As part of its Weather Forecast Node (WFN) initiative, the Plugin and Samunnati collaboration aims to leverage synergies in weather intelligence. The duo will roll out the Plugin WFN project across the smallholder farmer landscape. The XDC ecosystem data lake that will contain the Plugin’s weather intelligence will benefit from the inclusion of aggregated weather data.
Since registered weather stations and hyperlocal sensors are scattered around the world, Plugin’s WFN uses the data. The plugin’s data lake receives data from these nodes in near real-time and processes it. It is also possible to significantly expand the data lakes by deploying additional hyperlocal sensors around the world.
It is also possible to search weather data by nation, state or city to get the most accurate information possible from the PLI weather data collection.
PLI carries out regular inspections of the licensed weather station to ensure that recorded weather data is accurate. Plugin WFN pays its data providers to provide up-to-date and valuable weather data.
Crop insurance companies can check whether certain weather conditions have occurred and caused specific difficulties by using the data in near real time. Crop insurers can process payments for farmers affected by the data, ensuring that farming operations are not disrupted. WFN-facilitated crop insurance can also include agricultural logistics, commodity market hedging, aviation and government policy formation.
In addition, the collaboration looks at the availability of crop insurance for smallholder farmers and how to deal with these issues in the event of unpredictable and weather-related disasters.
In addition, Plugin and Samunnati signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see Samunnati join Plugin’s decentralized oracle network as a masternode operator. Once business activation conversations are complete, community members will receive instructions in the coming weeks.
About the plugin:
A decentralized Oracle platform called Plugin (PLI) offers affordable solutions for any smart contract that uses the XinFin XDC Network Eco System. The plugin allows the smart contract to interact with the environment in real time and ensures that the data it receives from the data provider is reliable.
Samunnati is a provider of agricultural value chain solutions that promote expansion along the entire value chain of the agricultural ecosphere. Samunnati moves the value chain to higher altitudes and better yields by empowering farmers and expanding agribusinesses.
