Studio Theater Worcester presents a captivating, engaging musical film exploring mental health

“We may not be able to recover, but we may be firm and still try.”

WORCESTER – Studio Theater Worcester received a positive diagnosis for the production of the powerful musical “Next to Normal”, continuing a solid brand created by the group’s mission to offer the Worcester community productions of “high quality theatrical works”.

The musical, with a book and lyrics by Brian Yorkie and music by Tom Keith, has been hailed as a “gloomy, depressing” or even “angry” musical.

This is not one of those things – although the “anxiety” deserves some attention.

It is rather an unequivocal musical – a screaming, honest image of a troubled family trying to make its way out of a tangled web of dysfunction woven from a bad mix of mental illness, misery and medicine.
