THE WEEK AT A GLANCE: 3 sports at home, Texan Football opens the season against Mississippi Valley State

Stephenville will have plenty of opportunities to watch fall sports this week as Texan Football kicks it off Thursday night as they host Mississippi Valley State to start the season.

Tarleton Volleyball will begin their week on Tuesday as they head to Lubbock, Texas to face Texas Tech. They then have a few days off to prepare for Dr. Pam Littleton Classic, which starts at Wisdom Gym on Friday, where they play Southeastern Louisiana this morning and Tennessee State in the evening. They will close Saturday night with an invitational against Prairie View A&M. Texan Soccer also returned to the Tarleton Soccer Complex Friday night to play Alcorn State, while Tarleton Cross Country begins its season on the road in Abilene, Texas to compete in the ACU Naimadu Classic Friday night.

TEXAS FOOTBALL begins the 2022 season against Mississippi Valley State at Memorial Stadium at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night. Head coach Todd Wheaton enters its 13th season as the leader of the Texas football team and is seeking his third straight winning season with Tarleton after moving to NCAA Division I. Whitten announced last week that Bo Allen, a four-star prospect and Kentucky transfer, will be the Texans’ starting quarterback to open the season . Memorial Stadium looks set to be covered in purple on Thursday night as there will be a Purple Out with purple jerseys given out to the first 1,000 fans. The Texans’ next game is Saturday, September 10th at 7:00 PM in Fort Worth against TCU.

TARLETON FOOTBALL impressed a packed crowd Thursday night with a 6-0 shutout of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their season opener at home. Six different Texans found the back of the net with three goals in each half. They made a quick turnaround and played at Lamar on Sunday afternoon, losing that game 5-1. Texan Soccer hosts its only game of the week on Friday at 6:00 pm against Alcorn State. It will be a children’s night with post-game autographs available for fans. Their next game will come a week later at the Tarleton Soccer Complex on Friday, September 9 against UT Permian Basic at 6:00 p.m.

TEXAS VOLLEYBALL has a total of four games this coming week, starting on Tuesday, August 30th at 6:00 PM in Lubbock, Texas to face Texas Tech. They will then host Dr. Pam Littleton Classic on Sept. 2-3, which will begin at 10 a.m. Friday against Southeastern Louisiana. Their next game is tonight at 6:00 PM to face Tennessee State. This game will also feature a tribute to Dr. Pam Littleton, as well as 300 free t-shirts given away in her memory. The invitational will conclude Saturday at 5:00 p.m., when the Texans take on Prairie View A&M. Tarleton Volleyball looks to keep the momentum going as it started its season 3-0 at the Texan Invitational and has dropped just one set in those three games.

TARLETON CROSS COUNTRY begins its season in Abilene, Texas at the ACU Naimadu Classic at 6:30pm Friday night. Clay Holland begins his first season as the head coach of Tarleton Cross Country and Track & Field after three years as the Texans’ head assistant coach. Their next event will be Saturday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 a.m. in Grand Prairie, Texas, at the UTA Invitational.
