The Wood County Health Department is conducting inspections

The Wood County Health Department spends much of its time inspecting establishments in the north end of the county in mid-October.

The following checks were carried out on 17 Oct.

On further inspection, Papa John’s Pizza, 425 E. Wooster St., Bowling Green, had three non-critical offenses that were the subject of not having an employee with a food protection manager certificate; improperly maintained or repaired plumbing system; and physical facilities are not maintained in good condition.

Foods that were not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation were critical; and temperature-controlled ready-to-eat food is not properly disposed of when required. Both were corrected during the inspection.

Non-critical were the lack of written procedures for time such as public health control; and equipment surfaces that do not come into contact with food are unclean.

The next checks were carried out on 18 Oct.

Meijer gas station, 10075 Olde US 20, Rossford, had two critical offenses that were food that was not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation; and chilled, ready-to-eat, temperature-controlled foods that are not properly dated (corrected during inspection).

The clay Pot182 S. Main St., Bowling Green, had one critical violation, which was food not properly protected from contamination by separation, packaging and segregation.

Vic pizza, 115 E. Main St., Wayne, had two non-critical violations that were non-food contact surfaces that were not easily cleaned; and equipment not approved by a recognized testing agency.

The next inspections were carried out on 19 October.

Speedway939 Dixie Hwy., Rossford, had one critical and one noncritical violation.

Quaternary ammonium disinfectant solution at incorrect water temperature, concentration and/or hardness was critical. Corrected on review.

A facility that is not kept clean is non-critical.

McDonald’s835 Lime City Road, Rossford, had one critical and four non-critical violations.

The chlorine disinfection solution at the wrong temperature and/or concentration was critical. Corrected on review.

Unclean equipment surfaces that do not come into contact with food are not critical; unnecessary or non-functional items and/or waste on the premises; physical facilities are not maintained in good condition; and the facility is not kept clean. All were repeat offenders.

Tru from Hilton9735 Clark Drive, Rossford, had four critical and four noncritical violations.

Cases where employees are not informed in a verifiable way about their responsibility to report information about their health are critical; equipment surfaces that come into contact with food or utensils are unclean (corrected during inspection); temperature-controlled foods that are not cold, held at the correct temperature (repetition corrected during inspection); and the food display is not well protected from contamination by consumers (corrected during inspection).

Non-critical when the facility does not have an employee with a food safety manager certificate (repeat); inadequate cooling, heating or food storage equipment available; improper storage of food products; and equipment not approved by a recognized testing agency.

The following checks were carried out on 20 Oct.

Knucklehead’s coffee, 24208 Front St., Grand Rapids, has four non-critical violations, which are equipment components that are not intact, tight or properly adjusted; surfaces that do not come into contact with food are not cleaned with the necessary frequency; the facility is not kept clean; and physical facilities are not maintained in good condition. All were repeat offenders.

of Lareau Restaurant, 24138 Front St./1st Floor, Grand Rapids, had two non-critical violations, which were that non-food contact equipment surfaces were unclean; and the facility is not kept clean. Both were repeat offenders.

The next inspections were carried out on 21 October.

Petro-Gorivo Island26416 W. Baker Drive, Perrysburg, had one critical and three noncritical violations.

Improper storage of poisonous or toxic materials was critical (repetition corrected during inspection).

Non-critical when the facility does not have an employee with a food safety manager certificate (repeat); no towels or drying device at hand washing sink(s) (corrected during inspection); and non-food contact surfaces are not cleaned as often as required.

Carolyn’s Custom Catering LLC29208 Millbury Road, Millbury, had one critical and two noncritical violations.

It is critical that equipment surfaces that come into contact with food or utensils are unclean.

Non-critical when the facility does not have an employee with a food safety manager certificate (repeat); and no disinfectant test kit available.

On further inspection, kitchen of Carlos, 27072 Carronade Drive, Suite F, Perrysburg, had one critical and three noncritical violations.

Critical is the water source and/or insufficient hot water capacity.

Non-critical were an inappropriate method of cooling temperature-controlled foods; non-food contact surfaces are not easily cleaned; and cooking equipment or pan surfaces are unclean.

Petro Snack A bar26416 W. Baker Drive, Perrysburg, had one non-critical violation, which was food contact surface(s) not being cleaned as frequently as required.

When checking on a complaint, Fence K1059 N. Main St., Bowling Green, had two critical and three noncritical violations.

A complaint was received that an employee was coughing and not washing their hands or wearing gloves when handling food; also an employee feeds a mouse in the store.

The manager said they had a mouse and a trap was set to remove it. The manager was told to contact pest control for pest removal and not to use house traps as this could cause contamination. The manager also said there was an employee who had complications with hand washing and wearing gloves, and they were trying to limit contact with that employee and the open food product.

Temperature-controlled foods that are not kept cold at the correct temperature were critical; and refrigerated ready-to-eat temperature-controlled foods that are not properly dated (repeat).

Non-critical were inadequate equipment available for cooling, heating or storing food; bulk food for self-service customers, improperly labeled; and improper food storage.

McDonald’s corporation, 10163 Fremont Pike, Perrysburg, had six non-critical violations that were unnecessary medication and/or mislabeling/storage of medication (corrected during inspection); equipment and utensils are not air dried (repeat); non-food contact surfaces made of unapproved materials; non-food contact surfaces of equipment are contaminated (repeat); physical facilities are not maintained in good condition; and the facility is not kept clean (repeat).

of Stella104 Louisiana Ave., Perrysburg, had two critical violations and one non-critical violation.

Temperature-controlled foods not kept cold at the correct temperature were critical (repeat); and work containers of poisonous or toxic materials that are not properly labeled (corrected during inspection).

Incorrect method of cooling temperature-controlled foods (corrected during inspection) was non-critical.

Huskieson Athletic Center550 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, has one critical violation, which is that temperature-controlled food was not hot, held at the correct temperature (repeat).

On further inspection, Saint Clara Commons, 12469 Five Point Road, Perrysburg, had four non-critical violations that were improper method of cooling temperature-controlled foods; improper storage of food products; non-food contact surfaces are not easily cleaned; and equipment surfaces that do not come into contact with food are unclean.

On further inspection, Shokudo Kitchen, 27072 Carronade Drive, D, Perrysburg, has eight non-critical violations, which are operating food containers that are not properly labeled; food worker(s) not wearing a hair restraint; equipment not approved by a recognized testing agency; a three-compartment sink is not available for manual washing, rinsing and disinfection of utensils; equipment surfaces that do not come into contact with food are unclean; cooking equipment or pan surfaces are unclean; unnecessary or non-functional items and/or waste on the premises; and the food service operation did not have a shift supervisor with a food safety supervisor certificate.

pub 515118 Woodville Road, Northwood, had one non-critical violation, which was that non-food contact equipment surfaces were unclean (repeat).

America’s car Auction, 9797 Fremont Pike, Perrysburg, had three critical violations, which were improper bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat foods (corrected during inspection); food equipment surfaces are not cleaned with the required frequency (corrected during inspection); and temperature-controlled foods that are not cold, stored at the correct temperature.
