Timely Art Show – Orange County Register

“Semi // Art // Omatic” is an art project that destroys semi-automatic rifles AR-15 and turns the pieces of the gun into works of art.

The artist intends the project to be a response to violence with weapons, especially among children.

Anaheim artist Robert Holton opens his studio for Kaiping Liu, creator of Semi // Art // Omatic, to showcase his work; has an opening reception from 5pm to 9pm on June 25 at Holton’s Drizzle Studios, 212 S. Loire St.

Liu said he learned he would become a father the same day 14 children were shot and killed at a school in Parkland, Florida. In an attempt to make the world a safer place for his child, he bought an AR-15 and had his blacksmith friend cut it into six pieces and turn it into a work of art.

He plans to cut another AR-15 into 21 pieces during the Anaheim event for all those killed in the recent shooting in Uwalde, Texas.
