By the end of 2022, the number of Walgreens health centers will expand from 55 to approximately 100, including an additional five in Ohio.

“Walgreens Health Corners is breaking down barriers and expanding access to much-needed health care, advice and services for our Medicaid members right in their neighborhoods,” said Buckeye Health Plan CEO Steve Province. “This collaboration opens the door to highly personalized, quality care provided by trusted local health professionals. It’s a major innovation that fits in perfectly with Buckeye’s vision of transforming community health, one person at a time. ”

Patient care services and related outcomes will be shared with the Buckeye Health Plan and additional patient care providers in support of individualized, holistic care.

Services to be offered at Walgreens Health Corner locations range from preventative care and health checks to help with chronic management and include:

“Healthcare is local in nature. Our collaboration with the Buckeye Health Plan will allow us to tailor our health services to the needs of Medicaid members and the communities we serve, ”said John Doe, interim president and chief financial officer of Walgreens Health. “These services are designed to reduce the gap between recommended best practice in patient care and the care actually provided, as well as to improve the management and coordination of care by accessing more accessible and convenient services where Buckeye members live. Health Plan. ”

The collaboration between Walgreens Health and the Buckeye Health Plan underscores the new vision of the Walgreens Boots Alliance to be a leading partner in rethinking local health and well-being for all.

This new collaboration follows a successful Walgreens Pharmacy pilot program launched with the Buckeye Health Plan in 2021 to support patients with asthma and COPD as part of a multi-phase approach to support comprehensive advanced clinical services. Through the pilot, Walgreens pharmacists advised patients on how to use their inhalers, provided proactive contact with non-adherent patients, and used predictive modeling to reach people at high risk of non-adherence. So far, more than 1,900 consultations with a pharmacist have been performed.

The Buckeye Health Plan was one of the first payers to reimburse pharmacists for these services in Ohio, made possible by recent changes in state legislation. It was the first expanded pilot project to manage asthma / COPD in partnership with a payer, which includes pediatric and adult patients managed by Medicaid, Medicare and the Health Exchange. The lessons learned from the pilot project will be applied to future disease management programs between Walgreens and Buckeye Health.
