Hitachi Rail has digitally connected public and private hire transport across a city for the first time. The milestone was achieved in the city of Genoa in Italy using technology from Hitachi’s new intelligent mobility suite called Lumada Intelligent Mobility Management.

In Genoa, Hitachi has connected 663 buses, 2,500 bus stops, the subway line used by 15 million a year, two funiculars, one historic hill railway, 10 public elevators and two suburban bus routes that cover 50 km. Consumers also have the power – with the push of a button on their mobile phones – to rent an electric car, pay for parking or find an electric scooter.
