Yourgene Health launches LightBench Detect to enrich the fetal fraction

LightBench Detect is a 3-in-1 clinical electrophoretic tool that offers liquid biopsy and NIPT laboratories the ability to automate the process of selecting and enriching the size of DNA from samples stored for long periods in EDTA BCT. This basic ability is complemented by the ability to perform fragment length analysis and fluorescence analysis for quality control purposes. The use of this patented technology, which allows EDTA, will be presented by the Center de recherche du CHU de Québec-Université Laval*. The group is working with Yourgene to compare the fetal fraction in 61 samples collected from a single pregnancy in Vancouver over a two-month period. Samples stored in expensive BCTs had fetal fractions below 4% (total pass / fail threshold) in 12% of the time, while samples stored in cheap EDTA tubes had zero cases of fetal fraction below 4% when combined with size selection. The low fetal fraction in NIPT will result in no result and potential re-sampling of the blood from the pregnant mother. They demonstrated that Ranger Technology offers an alternative solution to using expensive BCTs to stabilize NIPT samples.
